We've tried to provide some answers to questions we see a lot.
Q1: Okay, what's with the name Smiling Goat?
A: Ah, what's in a name... There is no significance in the Smiling Goat other than being the Smiling Goat. We are not farmers (although based in a farm community that the urban life is taking over quickly), nor do we have any goats (nor do we really want any...I mean, come on, we're technology consultants). It can be said that the name was inspired from the NBC television show Ed, but that is about where the similarities end.
Q2: Are you affiliated with SmilingGoat.com or Jane Hanstein Cunniffe?
A: No. Jane's web site www.smilinggoat.com is a site for (from what we can determine) providing children and elementary educational materials through reading. She has some pretty creative offerings you may want to check out.
Q3: Why do your downloads have a copyright statement?
Q3: I want a version of your software without a copyright statement?
Q3: How much does it cost to remove the copyright statement?
Q3: How can I buy your source code?
A: This is probably the most common question we get answered. The fact is that we provide our downloads for free (please be sure to read the license agreement you must agree to prior to installation for specific usage details) and don't ask for any payment. If you'd like to donate money to us for their continued development, please feel free. We won't, however, remove any copyright notice if you do. We feel that since we are providing a free product for you to utilize (even commercially!), that the least we could have is some recognition of the software itself. We are continually trying to make our copyright/marketing notices less obtrusive to the end user, but still prevelant to help recognize our company. We always like to point out that it is curious that people want to have a copyright notice removed from free software, but don't make the same request for software they pay for...weird...we don't see people asking Microsoft to remove their copyright notices from Windows.
Q4: How much is your hourly rate?
A: Well any proper consultant would tell you "it depends." And we wouldn't have it any other way. Because our team works virtual, our overhead is much lower than large global consulting firms. We mainly cater to smaller to mid-sized businesses and can work on an hourly or fixed-price bases. Either way, as with all consulting, there is no "sticker" price, all fees are negotiable.
